    Most homes are suitable for installation of lift, even for homes that has already been built, it is still possible to retrofit a lift. For new or Addition & Alteration (A&A) projects, it is best to plan for a lift now so that you have the full options of the different systems without restrictions.

    To evaluate the suitability for a lift installation, you will like need to consult a lift specialist, and a professional engineer to understand what are your options, if a lift can or cannot be installed for the site.     For home owners, you can consider between a Gearless Traction, Hydraulic or Screw-driven system, each presenting their own advantages that can meet different needs. Either of these lift systems are fully customisable to fit your requirements.

    Traction being the most popular new and Addition & Alteration (A&A) homes, while Hydraulic and screw driven might fit retrofit projects better, adding lift to existing buildings.

    There is no said limit on the capacity or load for the home lift. The capacity is usually limited by the space available as space determines the maximum cabin size possible. A good size home lift’s cabin car is 900 x 1200mm, and takes 400kg. This lift car size is just sufficient for 1 wheelchair and a additional person.

    How much it cost to install a home lift is dependant on many aspects including the structural setup required, the choice of systems, to the finishing touches. While the cost varies widely, the basic model of a lift can be cheaper than buying a car in Singapore.

    The choice of lift systems usually determines the large part of the cost of installing a home lift. The lift system will determine the structural requirements. Traction systems are more expensive but provide a smoother and faster ride. Hydraulic systems are cheaper but are slower.

    Even the choice between a glass shaft or reinforced concrete (RC) wall will vary the cost widely. I will say that the basic model of a lift is usually cheaper than buying a car in Singapore.

    The lifespan of a home lift, if well-maintained with regular maintenance should last at least 15-20 years.
